I download the fonts onto my computer but then I open them up and they are not true type files and so i can’t put it into the Font folder
Help?
if you open MY COMPUTER, then click on your C drive and open the folder named WINDOWS you will find a folder called FONTS, copy and paste the files into there so it’s (C:/WINDOWS/FONTS). If you are using Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop open your C drive again click on PROGRAM FILES – ADOBE – ILLUSTRATOR – SUPPORT FILES – REQUIRED – FONTS. hope that helps!!
I know of font downloading sites, but once I’ve downloaded them, how do I actually put them in programs to use?
But do I put the whole font folder in there or a certain file in the folder?
You have to move them to the “Fonts” folder.
Hit the “windows+e” key to open windows explorer.
Copy and Paste this location into the address bar.
C:\Windows\Fonts
That’s where they go.
Enjoy you’re new fonts.
When I download the font, it puts a folder in my desktop with just a bunch of documents in the font that says something about a fox all over it. HELP!
I’m not sure what the fox thing is – are you using Firefox as your browser? Maybe it’s a zip file that has become associated with Firefox somehow. Anyhow, I don’t know if you are running XP or Vista so I’m giving you the long instructions for both. It sounds like you already know how to download to your desktop, so this will pick up there…
If it’s a zipped file you will need to unzip it before you can do anything else. A zipped file usually has the .zip exension on it. Once unzipped, there should be font files (.ttf and/or .otf and probably a text file or explorer link that gives you usage information – read the info, but you’ll only be using the font files.
WINDOWS VISTA UNZIP: double-click on the zip to open it, then either click on “Extract all files” or drag and drop the files somewhere outside the zip window.
WINDOWS VISTA INSTALL: Select the font files (.ttf or .otf ) from within the Extracted Folder or where you dragged then right-click > Install
WINDOWS XP UNZIP: You should have extraction software already on your system – try right clicking on the file and selecting expand or extract if it is listed. Have it extract to where you are or where you can find it.
If you do not have those choices, you probably need to download software – there are many free applications. I am currently loving ExtractNow. Here is a link to a safe download from CNet. http://www.download.com/ExtractNow/3000-2250_4-10038365.html?tag=mncol&cdlPid=10871941 It is free. It is easy to install. Once it is installed, you just launch it, drag your zipped folders into it and click Extract. What is really cool about it is that you can extract multiple files at once. That is a huge bonus, especially when downloading all those fun free fonts.
WINDOWS XP INSTALL: Go to your fonts folder. Either through the start menu > control panels > fonts (make sure you are using Classic View for the control panels – it’s much easier). OR go to My Computer > Drive C > Windows > Fonts. Drag the new fonts (just the ttf/otf files) from the extracted folder or wherever they are into the fonts folder. A box should pop up showing that the font is being installed.
FOR VISTA OR XP: If the download was just a single .ttf or.otf file, skip the extracting steps and go straight to installing.
The font should now show up in the font list of all your programs. If you have any programs running you will need to quit and restart them before they see the newly installed font. Worse case scenario – if the fonts aren’t showing up, restart the computer.
I have tried to download fonts, but I don’t know what to do once I’ve pressed download PC.
Can anyone please help?
A good place to start downloading fonts is http://www.dafont.com . You may or may not have heard of it before, but it’s pretty popular and that’s also where I get my fonts.
Firstly, click on the download button to download your Compressed (zipped) file which will contain your font file.
1. Right click on your zip file, and choose the option “Extract all”.
2. Follow the steps on the program that will help you extract the files. Save the folder on your desktop.
3. Open the newly created folder that should appear on your desktop after the files are extracted.
4. In the folder should be a few files. One of the files should bear an icon: a piece of paper with a letter on it, O, A or double T’s.
5. Copy that file. It’s a font file. Sometimes there may be multiple font files, it doesn’t matter. Just copy them. If you just see folders, open the folders and look for the font files. They should be just inside the folders.
6. Go to Start> Control Panel> Fonts, and paste.
7. It’s installed
Now, if my answer didn’t help you, you can email me with more details and I’d be glad to help!

Like, well, the font Small Fonts, but it’s not quite the look. I’ve seen some cute mini fonts, I wish I had some examples, but yeah. Anyone know of a place where I can get some good fonts?
^_^
Thanks.

any tutorials or anything? cause its not working for me, i used to be able to, and now when i extract everything its not showing up in fonts.
Here are step-by-step instructions on how to install fonts onto your computer: (after downloading the zip file from http://www.dafont.com, or any other font site. Sometimes it might not be a zip file but in most cases it is.)
6. Go to Start> Control Panel> Fonts, and paste. Alternatively, you can go to Start> My Computer> C drive> Windows> Fonts. But the first one is easier.
7. It’s installed
Now, if my answer didn’t help you, you can email me with more details and I’d be glad to help!
I want that font onto a picture.
and i dont know how to get it on there.
Download the font first and foremost.
Then check this: http://tutorials.allyoushouldknow.com/windows/installfonts/
Let me know if that helps you out.
EDIT:
If you saw the font on a web page, and want to get a copy of it: open the page’s source and find the CSS (“font-family”) or look for the *shudder* “
Then simply do a Google search for that font name.
Is there somewhwere I can download a pack of free fonts? Single font downloads are fine, but if I could download them all at once, that would be great.
It’s hard to find something like that. And I’m 99% sure even if you find a free site that lets you download all at once, there will be some nominal charge.
Font Freak is one of those sites. They charge $8, but you get 5500 fonts, so it’s one smokin’ deal if you ask me.
The Download All Fonts link is at the top of the page http://www.fontfreak.com/main.htm
I already know how to download them onto your computer, but once they are on,they don’t show up on Photofiltre. I already put the font file in the fonts folder, please help!
If you have administrative credentials, you can install or remove fonts. If you have a regular user account and if the UAC feature is turned on, Windows Vista prompts you to run in elevated mode to install or remove fonts. If you have a regular user account and if the UAC feature is turned off, Windows Vista does not let you install or remove fonts. Therefore, the font installation operation or the font removal operation fails silently.
Method 1
Log on to the Windows Vista-based computer as a local administrator, and then reinstall the font.
Method 2
Turn on the UAC feature, and then reinstall the font. To do this, follow these steps:
1.Log on to the Windows Vista-based computer as a local administrator.
2.Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
3.Double-click User Accounts, and then click Turn User Account Control on or off.
Note In some versions of Windows Vista, User Accounts and Family Safety does not appear. Instead, click User Accounts, click User Accounts, and then click Turn User Account Control on or off.
4.Click to select the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer check box.
5.Click OK.
6.When you are prompted, restart the computer.
7.Reinstall the font.
